You are also right that he was very difficult to live with.

He would be delighted to know that you have translated him into Italian. He loved Italy, as do I. I am grateful to you.

Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14051636173650394825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7316691244626682900.post-77336447767509195022018-12-29T12:39:04.180-08:002018-12-29T12:39:04.180-08:00Dear Ms Lowinsky, my name is Massimo Privitera. I ...Dear Ms Lowinsky, my name is Massimo Privitera. I am an Italian musicologist (University of Palermo - Italy). I have done the first Italian translation of some from your father's essays (Edward E. Lowinsky, "Musica del Rinascimento. Tre saggi" a cura di Massimo Privitera, Lucca, LIM, 1997). I had chosen to do this translation because I was fascinated by your father's research method, his intelligence and his deep understanding of music; and I wanted to thank him posthumously by facilitating the reading of his writings to an Italian public. But, getting in touch with his personality through his writings, the polemics with Kerman and conversations with persons who met him, I became aware that living with him was not an easy task. For this reason I have been deeply touched by your testimony, and I thank very much for having published it. My best regardsMassimo Priviterahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17656493445780864059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7316691244626682900.post-57842413571365042282016-06-16T16:08:50.257-07:002016-06-16T16:08:50.257-07:00Thank you so much for this. During that time I had the great pleasure of singing musical illustrations for both your father and Joe Kerman. I had a great deal of contact with both. Boy! Does your piece ever bring up lot of "stuff" for me. In the mean time, may I refer you to Leo Strauss's Persecution and the Art of Writing? At some time he and your father both taught at the U of C... Your father's article on the concept of space in music was written for the future. Cheers!MackTKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13464690887503364477noreply@blogger.com
