News from the Muse

Wonderful News from the Muse!

The Muse, better known as The Sister from Below, is delighted and amazed to announce that Naomi Ruth Lowinsky’s poetry has found a new home online. This is not to say that Naomi has miraculously become technologically minded. But after years of the Sister whispering in Naomi’s ear that she needs a larger audience, and thanks to Naomi’s family members, Adam and Lorena, who are tech savvy, the Sister has been introduced to YouTube! Naomi now has her own channel where you can experience her reading and discussing her work. As her Muse, even I find this hard to believe!

As many of you know, Naomi is a widely published poet, writer, and a retired Jungian Analyst. With Jung, she believes that “Dreams are the guiding words of the soul.” Poetry is her way to enter the realm of the mysteries. Being a Jungian has taught her how to listen to her dreams and fantasies, as well as to listen to the collective unconscious as expressed in the news. Most of her writing, especially her poetry, is sparked by her dreams.

For Naomi, writing poetry is at once a spiritual practice, a psychological practice of self-reflection, and a political necessity. When I, her muse, insist that she speak truth to power, she is called to write political poems which address our collective shadow, name the injustice, the cruelty, and the atrocities committed by our government in our name. On her YouTube videos she will share with you her experiences of making poems.

Naomi will tell you that poetry is not an easy practice. The poet must submit to her imagination, which casts her from world to world—from the night world of shadow and dream, to the day world of love, work and history, to the eternal world of gods, myth and ancestors, back down to the underworld roots of language—without getting the bends. For her, poems are wild things. They must be tracked through many visions and revisions. One never knows where that feral creature will carry one, or what voices from the underworld or from the heavens will take over the creative process. It takes courage and tenacity to hold on until the poem settles down into what it is meant to be. In revising the poem, the poet is revised. Her unconscious and conscious have joined to create a third thing, the poem, which enriches her world with its music, story and spirit and will hopefully enrich the world of her readers. You are invited to join her:
